Ora Martha Honsbruch
February 11, 1920 - February 21, 2014

Ora Martha Honsbruch, the daughter of Chris and Martha (Luetkeman) Felten, was born on February 11, 1920, on the family farm in rural Spring Township, Cherokee County. Baptized and confirmed at St. John's United Church of Christ in rural Peterson, she spent her childhood years on the family farm and received her education at Brooke School, graduating in 1939. She was the last surviving student of the class.

On May 23, 1941, Ora married Garland Orville Honsbruch at St. John's Church. Following their marriage, they farmed in rural Aurelia but moved to a farm east of Larrabee in 1947. After Garland's death, Ora moved to Peterson, Iowa, in 1993. She spent her whole married life as a “Domestic Engineer,” taking care of her family, housekeeping, canning, and butchering as well as performing many other household chores. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, putting jig-saw puzzles together, reading, raising flowers, and visiting with friends and family. A member of St. John's Church, she held every office in the Ladies Aid except president. Moreover, she was a member of the Birthday Club. Once her health began to fail, she moved to the Wel-Life Assisted Living Facility in Alta. In 2012, she moved to Sunset Knoll Nursing Facility.

Ora passed away at Sunset Knoll on Friday, February 21, 2014, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Beverly, in 1942; her husband, Garland, in 1988; two sisters: Helen Sump Judson and Luella Nothwehr; and two brothers, Christ Edward and Alfred Felten.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Ronald (Jolette) Honsbruch, of Cherokee, Iowa, Glenda (Ron) Rekstad, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Shirleen (Clayton) Helgeson, of Emmetsburg, Iowa; and her sister, Betty (Alvin) Laursen; as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services: 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at St. John's Church in rural Peterson, Iowa, Rev. Dave Orthmann officiating.
Pallbearers: Lowell Nothwehr, Alvern Felten, Roger Laursen, Dean Felten, Darrel Honsbruch, and Bruce Laursen.
Music: “Abide With Us, Lord Jesus,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “On Eagle's Wings.”
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 28, 2014, with the family present after 5:00 P.M. at the Warner Funeral Home in Peterson.
Interment: St. John's Cemetery, Rural Peterson, Iowa.
