Lois Bernita Colvin, age 72, of Newell, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at her home in Newell.

Lois Payton was born on February 19, 1942, in Fairview, Iowa, a daughter of Francis and Stella Mae (Bemrose) Payton.

Growing up, she lived with her grandmother from the years of three to eight. She, then, moved to her parents’ home and later graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1958.

In 1962, Lois married Paul Allen Davis. They were blessed with four children: Dwight Allen, Bernita Joann, Jerry Todd, and Paula Annette. On December 22, 1978, Lois married Milton Colvin in Clarence, Iowa.

Lois worked as a Nurses Aid for Cedar County and as a waitress before starting her twenty-one year-long career at Bil-Mar.

Always caring for her neighbors and friends, Lois will be remembered for her willingness to help others. She enjoyed taking long walks, going on picnics, fishing, experiencing the outdoors, Angels, and playing bingo and the penny slots. Most of all, however, Lois loved her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dwight Davis, Bernita (Marvin) Hartman, Jerry (Debbie) Davis, and Paula (Shane) Bulten; her step-children: Sharon (Don) Stewart, Linda (Gene) Horman, Micheal (Lisa) Colvin, and Diane Northington; eleven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Louis (Duke) Payton; as well as extended family members and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Stella; her husband, Milton Colvin; her brothers: John, Woodrow Marion, James, and Wayne; a sister, Pauline; two infant siblings; and her step-father, Jim Danley.

Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., March 12, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., March 13, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Storm Lake.
