August 19, 1931 - January 14, 2014Richard W. Blomberg, age 82, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis Minnesota.
Richard Warren Blomberg, the son of Carl and Olga (Johnson) Blomberg, was born at Storm Lake, Iowa, on August 19, 1931. He lived his youth in the Albert City community and graduated from Albert City High School.
Richard faithfully served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army from February 5, 1952, until his honorable discharge on February 4, 1954.
On April 19, 1952, Richard married Betty Ann Goedert at Fort Bliss, Texas. They spent the first two years of their marriage at Fort Lewis, Washington, before moving to Albert City where they built their home and raised their family. They were blessed with ten children: Dick, Susan, Teresa, Mark, Dan, Dave, Michelle, Bruce, Bryan, and Bob. They celebrated fifty-four years of marriage and had many happy experiences with their children and grandchildren. After working together in the business enterprise they co-founded, Be-Rich, Inc., they retired in 1994. Some of Richard’s favorite pastimes included woodworking, card playing, and fishing. He belonged to St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church of Varina, the Albert City American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.
Richard’s life will always be honored and cherished by his family which includes his children: Dick and Kim Blomberg, of Chaska, Minnesota, Susan and Paul Weber, of Omaha, Nebraska, Teresa and Dan Curoe, of Abilene, Kansas, Mark and Carol Blomberg, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dan and Linda Blomberg, of Chandler, Arizona, Dave Blomberg, of New Baden, Illinois, Michelle Blomberg and Jody Wilkens, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Bruce and Kristi Blomberg, of Des Moines, Iowa, Bryan and Kendra Blomberg, of Newhall, Iowa, and Bob and Jennifer Blomberg, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; his grandchildren: April, Ryan, Kelsey, Julianne, Caroline, Nicole, Bradley, Sierra, Joey, Jenny, John, Tom, Bryce, Brett, Chris, Katie, Zach, Kristin, Izzy, Alex, Liza, Kierstin, Megan, Sadie, Benjamin, Joshua, and Lucille; his great grandchildren; his two sisters: Ingeborg Blomberg and Vivian Wilbur, both of Albert City, Iowa, Betty's brother and his wife: Bud and Harriet Goedert, of Varina, Iowa, and his sister-in-law: Pearl Herbaugh, of Tucson, Arizona, as well as by many other family and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Blomberg; his parents: Carl and Olga; two grandsons: Kevin and Kyle Blomberg; one sister: Evangeline Soderquist; and seven brothers: Arthur, Emil, Calvin, Kenneth, Herbert, George, and Andy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church in Varina, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 17, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the family present the entire time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
