Walter L. Biede, age 67, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at his home in Storm Lake.

Walter Louis Biede was born on August 21, 1946, in Emerson, Nebraska, a son of Henry and Gertrude Biede. In 1964, he graduated from high school in Homer, Nebraska. He, then, continued his education at the University of Maryland, European Branch.

In January of 1964, Walter was enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He completed his first tour in May of 1966. He was honorably discharged in April of 1968 after his second tour.

Walter spent his life working in security for the federal government. He retired on March 31, 1994. He loved to spend time reading and going on walks. His cat also held a special place in his heart.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers: Duane (Ardyae) Biede, of Hastings, Nebraska, Stanley (Sharyn) Biede, of Topeka, Kansas, and Hank (Terri) Biede, of Lakeside, Iowa; and his sisters: Ylene Longwell, of Minburn, Iowa, and Betty (Jeff) Homan, of San Juan Capistrano, California; as well as nephews; nieces; extended family members; and friends.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gertude.

Memorial Service: 5:00-7:00 p.m., December 17, 2013, at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
