Richard Clarence “Dusty” Holmberg, age 85, of Laurens, Iowa, died on November 19, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Richard was born on January 25, 1928, in Wausa, Nebraska, to Clarence and Edith (Hunt) Holmberg. Richard, known by family and friends as “Dusty,” acquired that name from the days when he worked in the carnival that traveled throughout the Midwest. Well known as a skilled machinist, he worked for M & J R Hakes in Laurens for fourteen years and then at Positech in Laurens for an additional twenty-four years. After retiring, he enjoyed working on his acreage, baling hay, doing crossword puzzles, and tinkering in the garage.
Richard married Lois Lorraine Gregory on October 11, 1953. Subsequently, they had four children: James, Jerry, Joda, and Jackie.
He is survived by his wife, his four children and their spouses, two brothers, one sister, four grandchildren, and six step-grandchildren, as well as by many great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
Richard had a strong faith in the Bible promise of the resurrection. This hope sustained him through his last days and comforts his family in their loss. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 9, 1970.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., December 14, 2013, at the Sunrise Pointe Golf Course in Storm Lake, Iowa.
