February 11, 1934 - October 19, 2013

Minnie McKeever, age 79, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Minnie Marie McKeever was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, on February 11, 1934, to William and Rose Schuler of rural Streeter, North Dakota. After completing her schooling in Streeter, she attended and graduated from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. A teaching job brought her to Linn Grove, Iowa, where she met Jerry McKeever. They married in 1959 and raised two sons, Joel and Jon.

For thirty years, Minnie taught in the local school district, first music and then business classes. During her career, she had many piano and organ students. She, also, shared her musical talents with the community, playing for church services, weddings, and funerals. After retiring, she became a regular at area nursing homes, playing the piano and visiting the residents. She was also active in PEO and church women’s groups. A highlight for her was a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with her sister-in-law, Jill. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her father- and mother-in-law, her brother, two brothers-in-law, and an infant son.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry McKeever, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her sons, Joel McKeever, and his wife, Julie, of Defiance, Iowa, and Jon McKeever, and his wife, Jane, of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin; her grandchildren: Austin, Dana, Kara, Kelsie, and Logan McKeever; her sister, Eileen Adams, of St. Paul, Minnesota; her brother, Wilbur Schuler, of Streeter, North Dakota; and her sisters-in-law, Jill Yriarte, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Jeanette (Dick) Cahalan, of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Jackie Ball, of Spencer, Iowa, and Jenny Rousu, of Fargo, North Dakota; as well as by other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Monday, October 21, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
