D. Duane Wiese, age 64, of Alta, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center of Storm Lake.

D. Duane Wiese was born on May 20, 1949, to Donald W. and Vera (Nielsen) Wiese in Cherokee, Iowa. Baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa, in 1949 and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa, on April 16, 1961, he graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School on May 24, 1967. He, then attended Westmar College in Le Mars, graduating on May 20, 1972. After completing his education, he worked at Grawburg Accounting and Tuttle Painting as well as on the State Highway Survey Crew.

Duane married Linda Brake on July 6, 1974. To this union three sons were born, Troy, Brent, and Nathan. Duane farmed on the family farm. He and Linda also owned a small business, Boyz-n-Berries, in Spirit Lake from 2003-2013.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father-in-law.

Duane is survived by his wife, Linda Wiese, of Alta; his sons, Troy Wiese, and his wife, Jen, of Ankeny, Iowa, Brent Wiese, also of Ankeny, Iowa, and Nathan Wiese, of Kansas City, Missouri; his grandchildren, Ryan and Kylee Wiese; his parents, Donald and Vera Wiese, of Larrabee, Iowa; and his sister, Carolyn Wiese, also of Larrabee; as well as by many cousins and friends.

A private family funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. Craig A. Cummins officiating. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 6:30–8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
