Avonne C. Frederickson, age 81, of Alta, passed away on Monday, September 09, 2013, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community of Storm Lake.

Avonne C. Frederickson was born on October 15, 1931, to Carl and Hazel (Peterson) Kruse in Chicago, Illinois. As a young girl, she moved to Alta. Baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, she graduated from HyView School in 1949.

In 1950, Avonne married Donovon Frederickson. Three children, Wayne, Donna, and Dalton, were born to this union. They farmed north of Alta.

Avonne graduated from nursing school in Cherokee in 1970 and then worked as a nurse at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. She also owned Avonne’s café in Alta. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she served on various boards and as the choir director. She also helped start the Payee Program in Buena Vista County.

Avonne was preceded in death by her parents and a special friend, LaVern Anderson.

She is survived by her children, C. Wayne Frederickson, and his wife, Trina, of Bozeman, Montana, Donna and her husband, Tommy Kelly, of Victorville, California, and Dalton Frederickson, and his wife, Chari, of Sheridan, Wyoming; her grandchildren, Dr. Wayne Anthony, and his wife, Susan, of Livingston, Montana, Donovaon, and his wife, Kelsie, of Bozeman, Montana, Chad Cooly, and his wife, Rosie, of Arizona, Christina, and her husband, Gorge Muratalla, of California, Charis, and her husband, Greg Stubin, of Minnesota, Noelle, and her husband, Aaron Morford, of Brookings, South Dakota, Maggie Fredrickson, of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Jenna Fredrickson of Sheridan, Wyoming; ten great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Shearer; a sister, DaMaris, and her husband Eldo Schornhorst, of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother, Carl Wendell, and his wife, Diane Kruse, of Germantown, Tennessee; and her nieces and nephews, Mark and Paul Kruse, Steve Schornhorst, and Joyce Schornhorst Edfors.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. Don E. Rothweiler officiating. Burial will be at the Scandinavian Cemetery of Alta. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
