Jean Elizabeth Dyvad-Bartholomew
February 27, 1926 - April 26, 2013Jean Elizabeth Dyvad - Bartholomew, 87, of Sioux City, formerly Storm Lake, died on Friday, April 26, 2013, in Sioux City.
Jean was born on February 27, 1926, to Forrest and Jessie (Bringgold) Chapin of Wasioja Township in Dodge County, Minnesota. She graduated from West Concord High School in West Concord, Minnesota, and attended St. Mary's College of Nursing at Rochester, Minnesota, graduating with a nursing degree. She, then, attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, earning her degree in elementary education.
Jean married Harvey Dyvad on February 4, 1951, in Old Concord, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Storm Lake. Harvey died on November 15, 1982. On February 24, 1996, she married Robert Bartholomew in Storm Lake.
Jean worked at University of Minnesota hospitals and then started the OBGYN unit at Buena Vista County Hospital in 1951. She continued to work there in various capacities for twenty-one years. She, then, worked as the school nurse at Storm Lake Community Schools for seventeen years before retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann, and her husband, Dan Pyle, of Pella; her son, Jim Dyvad, of San Francisco, California; her stepson, Neil, and his wife, Lesley Bartholomew, of Sioux City; six grandchildren: Valerie, and her husband, Akim Nilausen, and their son, Gabriel, of Newton, Melissa, and her husband, Jacob Berger, and their son, Jackson, of Pella, Rachel Bartholomew, of Sioux City, Kenny Bartholomew, of Sioux City, Jill Walden, of Iowa City, and Sean Weston, of Seattle, Washington; her brother, John, and his wife, Shirley Chapin, of Dodge Center, Minnesota; her sister, Julie, and her husband, David Kelm, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; her brothers-in-law, David, and his wife, Martha Bartholomew, of Dundee, Illinois, and Harold, and his wife, Joyce Dyvad, of Buda, Texas; as well as her longtime friend, Harold Geisinger, of Storm Lake.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, Harvey Dyvad; her second husband, Robert Bartholomew; her step-daughter, Susan Weston; her brother, James Chapin; her sisters-in-law, Doris Miller and Margaret Bodholtz.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Morningside Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Koehler officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City.
