Carol L. Brown, 88, of Storm Lake, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Carol was born on January 6, 1925, at Quimby, Iowa, to Abe and Ethel (Eubank) Glidewell. Baptized in the Church of Christ in Cherokee, she later transferred to the Quimby Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school.

Graduating from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1942, she received a trophy for sportsmanship. On October 1, 1943, she married Rex Brown at South Sioux City, Nebraska. She worked at Woolworth's and the Farmers’ Coop Elevator in Cherokee. After retiring, she and Rex moved to a home in on the lake in Glenwood, Minnesota. There, she worked for the Ben Franklin store. Eventually, they moved to Aurelia and most recently to Storm Lake a number of years ago.

A member of the First United Methodist Church at Aurelia, Carol spent most of her leisure time walking and shopping. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's many events. Nonetheless, she most enjoyed being with her family and visiting with her "condo" friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex, on January 14, 2007; her brother, Garland, in infancy; her brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Edna Glidewell; her sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Marvin Mann; and her sister-in-law, Faye Robinson.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Bonnie and Butch Engel, of Newell, and Janene and David Kissinger, of Bryan, Texas; her step-daughter and her husband, Mary Jo and Stan McKenzie, of Rogers, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren; as well as several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Pastor Missy Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. On-line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
