Donald Schramm, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, May 3, 2013, at the North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.

Donald Roy Schramm was born on April 17, 1924, in Albert City, Iowa, the son of Henry and Sophia (Lehman) Schramm. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake on April 20, 1924. Before his family moved to Webb, Iowa, he attended grade school in Albert City. He graduated from Webb High School with the class of 1942. On February 28, 1943, he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ayrshire. Currently, he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

Stationed in Korea and the Philippines, Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class Infantryman. He enlisted on December 7, 1941, the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

In 1951, Don married Maxine Pietsch in Ayrshire, Iowa. This union was blessed with a son, Gary L. Schramm.

Over the years, Don worked first at the Farm Implement Dealership in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and then for the Standard Oil Company and later for the Larson Oil Company in Storm Lake. A baseball fan, especially of the Minnesota Twins, he also enjoyed playing cards.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of over sixty years, Maxine Schramm, of Storm Lake; his son, Gary (Karen) Schramm, of Ankeny, Iowa; his step-grandchildren: Tony Bohnenkamp, of Des Moines, Iowa, Kristin (Travis) Busby, of Grimes, Iowa, and Matt (Andrea) Bohnenkamp, of Bondurant, Iowa; his step-great grandchildren: Luke and Kate Busby and Charlie and Jace Bohnenkamp; his sister, Inez Eimers, of Storm Lake; and his sister-in-law, Lee Schramm, of Phoenix, Arizona; as well extended family members and many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Reuben and Waldo Schramm; his sisters-in-law: Jean Schramm and Margaret Knudtson; and his brothers-in-law, Everett Eimers and Irving Knudtson.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., May 06, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., May 07, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: May 07, 2013, at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
