Gordon B. Abels, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on January 1, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Gordon B. Abels was born on June 1, 1929, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Bernard Ipps and Marian Adelaide (Culp) Abels. He was baptized, received his first communion, and was confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Growing up, he attended school in Cherokee, graduating from Washington High School.
On November 22, 1950, Gordon married Dolores Abels. They were blessed with four children: Kurt, Bernard, Stephen, and Chris.
In January of 1951, Gordon enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country until he was honorably discharged in December of 1955.
Gordon worked as a Farm Bureau Insurance salesman and then as an Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner salesman going from house to house. He owned his own tree service and upholstery business for ten years before retiring in 1995. Gordon enjoyed deer hunting with friends as well as giving them garden vegetables and lap quilts.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons: Stephen and Chris Abels, both of Storm Lake, Iowa; and four nieces and seven nephews; as well as extended family and friends.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores Abels, in 2008; two sons, Ben, in 1981, and Kurt, in 2009; two infant sons; a sister, Janice Lawrence; and a brother, Gale Abels.
Memorial Service: 4:00 p.m., January 04, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
