December 2, 1946 - October 28, 2012Barbara K. Pencook, age 65, of Albert City, Iowa, died October 28, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Barbara Kay Lee, the daughter of Stanley and Marjorie (Mickelson) Lee, was born at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on December 2, 1946. In her youth, she lived with her parents on a farm near Rutland, Iowa. She attended school in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1965. She, then, continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville.
Barb held various jobs in Humboldt before moving to Iowa Falls in 1975 where she worked in a store.
In 1980, Barb married Frank Pencook of Radcliffe, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Maria Margaret and Nathan Stanley. Following their marriage, they lived in Dakota City and Humboldt, Iowa. After her marriage dissolved, Barb moved to Albert City, Iowa, in 1989 where she worked at the Pleasant View Nursing Home until retiring because of ill health.
Barbara was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Albert City. Her special interests included following the Iowa Hawkeyes and completing word search puzzles. In her younger years, she enjoyed reading and baking. She always had a very special place in her heart for children. She donated her eyes through the Iowa Donor Network.
Barb will always be lovingly remembered by her family which includes her son, Nathan Pencook, of Albert City, Iowa; her mother, Marjorie Lee, of Humboldt, Iowa; her sister, Margaret McKenney, of Humboldt, Iowa; two nieces: Heather McKenney, of Humboldt, Iowa, and Laura McKenney, of Waterloo, Iowa; and a much loved great nephew, Landon McKenney, of Humboldt, Iowa; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Pencook, on March 7, 2011; her father, Stanley Lee; and her grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be at a later date in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present the entire time. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
