Marlin W. Anderson
August 31, 1926 - January 2, 2012

Marlin Weston Anderson was born August 31, 1926, to Conrad H. and Ethel C. (Johnson) Anderson in his family home south of Albert City. He passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Marlin was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church (formerly Ljunghed) in Albert City. He graduated from Albert City High School in 1944.

Marlin married Florence Elizabeth Porath, daughter of Alex C. and Alma (Thiede) Porath, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on May 20, 1948. After making their home in Albert City, they moved to Marlin's home place in 1972. Marlin and Florence were the parents of two children, Kristin Alexis and Stuart Conrad.

A lifetime farmer, Marlin also worked for the Farmers Co-op Oil Company as a tank wagon agent, at S & A Garage as a mechanic, and later for Johnson Electric.

A member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Marlin served as treasurer and president of the church council as well as Sunday school secretary. He also enjoyed playing cornet in the Albert City town band. He served on the Pleasant View Home Board of Directors for six years, five of them as chairman. He also served on the ALCECO board for twelve years. In late December of 2008, he became a resident of the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Marlin is survived by his daughter, Kris, and her husband, Gary Griffin, of New Hampton; his son, Stu, and his wife, Ellen, of Albert City; his granddaughter, Amy, and her husband, Christopher Hogrefe, of North Liberty; his grandsons, Grant Griffin, and his fiancée, Sarena Johnson, of Chicago, Illinois, and Jess Anderson, of Sioux City; his great-grandson, Carter Hogrefe; and his great-granddaughter, Addyson Hogrefe, of North Liberty; his sister, Virginia Gustafson, of Roseville, Minnesota; and his sister-in-law, Florence Porath, of Albert City, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.

Marlin was preceded in death by his wife, Florence (Jan. 12, 2003); his parents; his daughter-in-law, Marikay Anderson; his sister-in-law, Helen Nesheim, and his brothers-in-law, Francis Porath, N.K. (Bob) Nesheim, and C. Verner (Gus) Gustafson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City with the family present the entire time. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
