May 2, 1921 - November 14, 2004Marjorie Jeanette Decker, age 83, of Laurens, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.
Jeanette was born May 2, 1921, on a farm northeast of Marathon to James William and Lucretia May (Hayes) Watts. She lived with her parents on their farm home as a child and attended the Pickeral Lake Country School through the eighth grade. She, then, attended and graduated from Marathon High School.
On March 28, 1943, Jeanette married Bernard R. Decker in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Bernard William (Bill) and Maureen Renee.
Jeanette spent her life making a warm and comfortable home for her family. She treasured her family and loved to spend time with them.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and worked as a cook at the school. In her spare moments, Jeanette liked to sew and crochet. She enjoyed lake scenery and drives to the Storm Lake and Okoboji areas to take in the lake views. These were happy memories for Jeanette.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Bill, and his wife, Krystal Decker, of Rembrandt; her daughter, Maureen, and her husband, Ronald Phelps, of Alta; her grandchildren: Bridget and Theresa Decker as well as Christopher and Candi Phelps; and two great-grandchildren; along with other extended family members and a host of friends.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Wilma Bell Dingman; her brothers: Kenneth Walen Watts and William Glen Watts; and a grandson, William Benjamin (BJ) Decker.
Funeral services for Marjorie J. Decker were held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Marathon with Pastor David Schumann officiating. Burial was in the Poland Township Cemetery under the direction of the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
