Helen M. Vaudt Shaw, 93, of Waverly, passed away on November 27, 2011, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Helen Marie Vaudt Shaw was born on November 2, 1918, the daughter of Henrich Gerhard (Hank) and Elva Eve (Lockard) Johnson in Eagle Grove.

She graduated from Marathon High School, Marathon, Iowa, in 1937. She, then, attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake where she received her teaching certificate.

On March 11, 1941, she married Albert W. Vaudt, Jr., (Jake) in San Francisco. The couple returned to Iowa in 1957 and developed Slifer Manufacturing, a business producing egg washers and then high pressure pumps. Shortly thereafter, they relocated the business first to Gowrie and then to Humboldt. In 1968, they sold it, retired, and moved to Corozal Town, Belize. Health concerns brought them back to the United States a few years later, and they settled in Harlingen, Texas. Jake died in 1990, and on June 16, 2001, Helen married John D. Shaw in Harlingen. John died in 2005, and in October of 2007, Helen moved back to Iowa to reside at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Home in Waverly.

Helen had been a member of various Lutheran churches in the communities where she lived and was an honorary member of the Harlingen Junior Service League. She enjoyed her church and volunteer activities. She also liked traveling, sewing, and playing cards.

Helen's family includes one son, Daryl Vaudt, of Quartzsite, Arizona; two daughters, Karen (Denny) Mills, of Cedar Falls, and Donna (Al) Millon, of Harlingen, Texas; six grandchildren, Gina Benegas, Steve Vaudt, Ross Mills, Shawna Mills, Jill Farris, and Sara Winningham; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Luella (Gene) Ryen, of Waterloo; and one brother, Ron (Rosie) Johnson, of Laurens. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Jake Vaudt and John Shaw; six sisters, Ivadel Mumford, Genevieve Cook, Viola Koster, Marlys Brown, Romell Johnson, and Arlene Pomeroy; a brother, Merlyn Johnson; and a grandson, Jay Vaudt.
