Janice M. "Jan" Jones, age 83, of Alta, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the Crescent Point of Niantic, Connecticut.
Janice M. Jones was born on a farm north of Aurelia on July 7, 1928, the daughter of Walter and Roberta (Sitz) Meinking. She attended grade and high school at Brooke consolidated school, graduating in 1946. She, then, chose to attend the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology, Minneapolis, Minnesota. After her graduation, she was employed at the Spencer Municipal Hospital as their first medical technician. Subsequently, she worked for twenty years at the Hartley Hospital, Hartley.
In 1950, Janice married Bill Loder, of Spencer. This union was blessed with three children, Jane, John, and Ann. On January 28, 1980, she married Lowell Jones. They lived in Alta at the Jones' Funeral Home. After they retired in 1990, they continued to live in Alta although she and Lowell did spend many winters in Tucson, Arizona.
Janice enjoyed reading, golfing, dancing, traveling, and following the Iowa Hawkeyes. A avid card player, she belonged to several clubs. As a member of the Alta Trinity Lutheran Church, she was also active in the Esther Circle. In addition, she was a fifty year member of PEO.
Janice was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had such fond memories of all the family fun programs filled with laughter and happiness at holiday time.
Preceding Janice in death were her parents; her husband, Lowell, in 2007; her step-daughter, Judy Kearney; and a special cousin, Francis Richard.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jane Eilers, of Salina, Kansas, and Ann Loder Block, of Niantic, Connecticut; her son, John Loder, of New York, New York; her step-daughter, Connie Jones, and partner, Brenda Collins, of Sioux City; her step-son-in-law, Bill Kearney, of Sparks, Nevada; her grandson, Austin Block, of Niantic, Connecticut; her granddaughters, Jennifer, and her husband, Bryan Klepper, of Sherwood Forest, Maryland, and Joey, and her husband, Adam Gaines, of Omaha, Nebraska; her step-grandson, Kevin Kearny; her step granddaughter, Colleen Horowitz; seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Vivian, Lucy, Eddie and Jay Gaines, and Will and Audrey Klepper; a sister, Julia Meinking, of Aurelia; and cousins, Barbara Johnson and David Sitz.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Alta. Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
