Storm Lake, Iowa

Gunhild Krenzien, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died November 13, 2011, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Gunhild was born on September 1, 1921, at home in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Jon and Agnes (Thorgren) Carlson. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta where she remained a lifelong member.

Growing up, she attended grade school and graduated from Alta High School in 1938.

On September 26, 1941, Gunhild married Floyde Krenzien in Joplin, Missouri. They were blessed with four children: Richard, Sheila, Douglas, and Shelley.

Gunhild enjoyed oil painting, doll collecting, and sewing. She belonged to the Alta VFW Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge for many years. She treasured her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Richard (Sylvia) Krenzien, of California, Sheila Kurtz, of Nebraska, and Shelley (Robert) Myers, of Washington; her grandchildren: Richard Louis Krenzien; Tina Kurtz; and Brielle Myers; two great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.

Gunhild was preceded in death by her parents, Jon and Agnes Carlson; her husband, Floyde Krenzien; her son, Douglas Krenzien; her son-in-law, Larry Kurtz; and her sister, Bertha VanHaxladen.

Visitation: 1:00-3:00 p.m., November 16, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 3:00 p.m., November 16, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Interment: November 17, 2011, at the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
