February 23, 1919 - October 18, 2011

Violet Iona Peterson, age 92, of Alta, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Countryside Estates of Cherokee.

Violet Iona Peterson, a twin daughter of Jens Christian and Anna Patrea Olson Schmidt, was born in Alta on February 23, 1919. She attended Alta schools, graduating in 1938.

On February 23, 1941, she married Frank Galen Peterson at the First Presbyterian Church of Alta. This wonderful marriage was blessed with four loving children, nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Violet and Frank farmed in the Cherokee and Alta area until they moved to Alta in 1970. Violet did house cleaning for several people in the Alta and Storm Lake area for about forty-seven years.

A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, she served in church offices and belonged to the Ladies Aide groups. She also belonged to two neighborhood clubs in the farming area northwest of Alta. She enjoyed going to church dinners. Most of all, however, she dearly loved and prized her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking for the many family gatherings and visiting with relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; one son, Galen Peterson; two sisters, Marguel Marie Laurine McMullen, and her twin, Lylia Rose Bond.

Violet is survived by two sons, Ron, and his wife, Shirley Peterson, of Cherokee, and Leon, and his wife, Barb Peterson, of Holstein; one daughter, Laurine Smith, of White Salmon, Washington; and a former daughter-law, Trish Peterson, of Alta; nine grandchildren, Lauri and Ed Garvin, Angela and Tracy Stevenson, Joseph and Jessie Peterson, Shelly Nicholsen, Jeffery and Becka Cooper, Shawn and Jenny Peterson, David Peterson, and his friend, Steph, and her children, Riley and Justin, Terry and Gretta Peterson, and Traci Peterson, and her friend, Jacob; her step-grandchildren, Angie and Jason Dalrymple and Aaron and Tari Hamann; fourteen great-grandchildren, Tenice, Trent, Jesica, Hailey, Cassidy, Trevor, Damon, Beau, Drew, Annie, Logan, Cameron, Kaden, and Allie; and her step-great-grandchildren, Oliver, Olivia, Lillian and Gavin. She will be missed by many friends and neighbors whom she touched with her caring heart given to her by her Creator and Savior.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Alta with the Rev. Craig Lee officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta at a later date. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of arrangements.
