Storm Lake, IowaRodney Schenatzki, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Rodney Dean Schenatzki, son of Marvin and Orvilla (Prather) Schenatzki was born on November 5, 1922, at Ruthven, Iowa. He attended a country school in Ayrshire, Iowa, and later graduated from Truesdale High School in 1940.
From 1941 -1945, Rodney honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Having been injured while in service, he received a Purple Heart. After serving his country, Rodney attended Buena Vista College and graduated with a B.S. in education.
In 1949, he married Iris Burditt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, three sons were born: Garold, Dennis, and Ronald.
Rodney taught math and coached in Harris, Iowa, was Junior High Principal at Madrid, Iowa, and taught math in Boone, Iowa. He retired in 1984 after a thirty-two year teaching career.
In addition to serving in the USMC in the Pacific Theatre, Rodney was a life member of the Disabled Veterans, Alta American Legion Post #1, a Spencer Life member of the ISEA, and a member of the United Methodist Church of Storm Lake. He enjoyed dancing, fishing and hunting.
Those left to cherish in his memory include his sisters: Irene Mallett, of Spencer, Iowa, and Verlie (Everett) Amis, of Greenville, Iowa; a brother, Edward (Marge), of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; extended family; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Schenatzki, in 1987; his three sons: Ronald Schenatzki, in 1975, Dennis Schenatzki, in 1976, and Garold Schenatzki, in 2009; his parents; and two infant sisters: Cleota and Illa Mae.
Visitation: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. April 13, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. April 13, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
