Mary V. Erickson, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Mary Virginia was born December 28, 1923, to Ulrich “Oley” and Rosa Christina (Mangold) Adams in Farmer City, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church and continued to celebrate her faith throughout her life at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Growing up, Mary attended school in Fisher, Illinois, where she graduated from high school in 1941.

On March 27, 1942, Mary was united in marriage to Morris Eugene Garrett in Riverside, California. This union was blessed with eight children: Sister Ellen Mary, Larry, Mary Beth, Barbara, Robert, Jerome, James, and Teresa. On May 8, 1970, Mary was united in marriage to Leonard Erickson.

Mary worked as a cook for many years at the Cobblestone in Storm Lake. She found joy in being outdoors, especially gardening and bird watching. Mary cherished the times she was able to spend square dancing, playing cards, and reading. She had a passion for horses and took great pride in her family. Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her children: Sister Ellen Mary Garrett, of Dubuque, Iowa, Mary Beth (August) Erickson, of Cherokee, Iowa, Robert (Lan) Garrett, of Blue Springs, Missouri, James (Susan) Garrett, of Hampton, Iowa, and Teresa (Ellsworth) Jeppeson, of Newell, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (Velta) Adams, of Rantoul, Illinois, and Frank Adams, of Rice, Washington; her sisters: Geraldine Burke, of Vancouver, Washington, Barbara Adams, of Portland, Oregon, and Theresa Hampton, of Portland, Oregon; as well as extended family and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Morris Garrett and Leonard Erickson; her sons, Larry and Jerome Garrett; a daughter, Barbara Rice; and her brothers, Stanley, Virgil, and Paul Adams.

Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. April 02, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Visitation: 9:30 a.m. April 02, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: April 02, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
