June 3, 1920 - March 22, 2011

Margaret M. Erickson, age 90, of Laurens, Iowa, died March 22, 2011, at her home in Laurens.

Margaret Marie Schoon was born June 3, 1920, to George and Anna (Essing) Schoon in Fonda, Iowa. She attended grade school and high school in Fonda where she graduated in 1936. After high school, Margaret continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she earned a teacher's certificate at the age of eighteen. Afterwards, she taught in a one room school house near Fonda for many years.

On March 22, 1944, Margaret was united in marriage to Eldon Erickson in Pomeroy, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children: Joyce, Nancy, Joel, Rodney, Charles and Bradley.

Margaret and Eldon started farming near Marathon. She enjoyed farm life and often spent time on the tractor. She loved to be outdoors and traveling in the winters to Mesa, Arizona, and Phar, Texas. Margaret was a member of several card clubs, had a passion for cooking and treasured time she spent with Eldon dancing. Nonetheless, Margaret especially cherished spending time with her family, creating everlasting memories.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Joyce (Phil) Westlund, of Nampa, Idaho, Nancy Herzenach, (Daniel Victor) of Tucson, Arizona, Joel (Barb) Erickson, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Rodney Erickson of Des Moines, Iowa, Charles (Vickie) Erickson, of Marathon, and Bradley Erickson and Evelyn Anderson, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers: Richard (Cathy) Schoon, of Peace Dale, Rhode Island, William (Pat) Schoon of Madison, Wisconsin, and Rudolph (Lois) Schoon, of Pomeroy, Iowa; a sister, Helen Hatteberg, of Clinton, Iowa; and a sister-in-law: Helen Gross, of Lakewood, Colorado; as well as extended family and many friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Gerdes; and two sisters, Lucille Faine and Delaphine Windfeldt.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 25, 2011, at at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon, Iowa. Visitation will take place Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, Iowa. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
