Maurice "Gump" Ringgenberg, age 83, of Early, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.

Maurice Allen Ringgenberg was born on August 4, 1927, to William and Ethel (Fowler) Ringgenberg in Lake City. He grew up in the Lytton area, attending country school in Calhoun County and graduating from Lytton High School. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was confirmed in his faith on August 20, 1944. After high school, he served his country in the Navy.

After his discharge, Gump went to work as a barber and as a city worker in both Early and Albert City. In Albert City, he received the "Citizen of the Year" award, a memory he always cherished. He was married to Marilyn Luft on February 3, 1951, and they were blessed with four children: Milton, Beth, Jenny, and Rosie.

Gump enjoyed hunting as well as playing softball and cards. He also had a love of horses. His family remembers that "grandpa" knew everyone and considered them all friends, and everyone knew "Gump." He will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary; his children: Milton (Brenda) Ringgenberg, Beth (Rich) Fossey, Jenny (Tom) Price, and Rosie McCarthy, his honorary daughter; his grandchildren: Brian Beauchemin, Kristin (Chris) Wright, Jessica Fossey, Tony (Katie) Price, Jamie (Jason) Elliot, Joey (Michelle) Price, Ryan Ringgenberg, and Afton (Aaron) Daniel; his great-granchildren: Chase and Sawyer Wright, Cayanne Beauchemin, Bailey and Emma Price, Jaxon Elliot, Ava and Alli Price, and Keaton, Auston, and Trendon Daniel; as well as many neices, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ethel; his brothers: Kenneth, Duane, Eugene, and Dean; and his sister Gertrude.

Memorial services were held Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Gymnasium in Early.
