December 19, 1900 - April 20, 1993

Opal Hughes, 92, died at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Tuesday, April 20, 1993.

Services were Friday, April 23, 1993, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with interment at Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove.

Opal Lucille Sansen was born December 19, 1900, in Nokomis Township to Charles J. and Ellen C. Mahn Sansen. In 1919, she was married to Roy Schroeder and they became the parents of four children, Aurelia, Evelyn, Lois and Kenny. On February 8, 1945, Opal was married to Everett Hanson. They farmed in Linn Grove until Everett passed in 1966. Opal and Owen Hughes were united in marriage on September 24, 1970. They moved into Linn Grove the following year. Owen Hughes died in 1982.

Besides her husbands, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her infant son Kenny; a daughter, Aurelia Hitchcock; her parents; five brothers, Courtright, Ralph, Craig, Oliver and Cliff; and two sisters, Bernadine and Dorothy.

She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Cook, of Laurens, and Lois Peck, of Storm Lake; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Robinson, of Hayward, California, Hilda Camp, of Iowa City, and Evelyn Mason, of Kissimmee, Florida; and one brother, Karmer Sansen, of Waterford, California (abstract, Laurens Sun, 4-29-1993).
