Ruth Otten
April 27, 1927 - May 12, 2004

Ruth "Elaine" Otten, 77, of rural Chetek, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at her home.

Elaine was born April 27, 1927, in Linn Grove, Iowa, to Lars and Alice (Karlsson) Benson. She was a 1944 graduate of Linn Grove High School. On December 29, 1945, she married Lloyd Glenn Otten in Cedar Rapids. Beginning in the spring of 1953, she worked with her husband on their farm east of Chetek, milking cows, doing the field work and raising and caring for her family as well.

She loved doing needle point, gardening (especially flowers), stitching, painting and rose malling, at which she excelled. Her cooking talents were endless, and she was also the problem solver. The true joy in her life, however, came from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd, of rural Chetek; her son, Patrick (Kathi), of Rockford, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Chad, Stacey, Kortney and Andrew, all of Otten, and Brian Otten, Michelle (Jeff) Holt and Nichole Otten; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Iva Saggert, of Iowa City; a special niece, Alice Ferguson; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Alice (Karlsson) Benson; her step-mother, Elsie Benson; her son, Michael Otten (2002); and three sisters, Doris, Bernice and Elsie.

Services for Elaine Otten were held on May 17, 2004, at the Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Keith Ruehlow and Sam Koche officiating.
