Joan Rolling, 57, of Alta, formerly of Le Mars, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Health Center in Storm Lake.

The former Joan Lea Anthony was born February 28, 1953, in Le Mars, the second of seven children born to Donald and Helen (Frerichs) Anthony. She grew up in Le Mars and received her elementary education at Gehlen Catholic School and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1971. Joan married Gary Rolling. She moved to Alta in 1985 and had been employed with the U.S. Postal Service since 1994, most recently at Storm Lake.

Joan will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, her mother, sisters, brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Craig and Margie Rolling, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Brad and Shaina Rolling, of Ankeny, and Gina and Erwin Castro, of West Des Moines; six grandchildren: Lauren Rolling, Gabriel Castro, Logan Rolling, Isaiah Castro, Alizae Castro and Luke Rolling, and a seventh grandchild that is due to be born any day; her mother, Helen Anthony, of Le Mars; three sisters: Judy (Bill) Mathews, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jean (Ron) Counter, of Sioux City, and Julie (Armand) Orban, of Deming, New Mexico; three brothers: Jim (Nancy) Anthony, of Creston, John (Deb) Anthony, of Le Mars, and Jeff (Denise) Anthony, of New Ulm, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Anthony.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2011, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverend Matt Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars where there will be a Parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday morning at St. James Church for one hour before the Funeral Mass.
