Herman Ehmen
August 4, 1919 - January 30, 2003Otto H. Ehmen of Laurens, age 83, formerly of Rembrandt, died on January 30, 2003, at Laurens. Otto Herman Ehmen was born on August 4, 1919, at Rembrandt. He was the son of Dirk and Grace (Onner) Ehmen. Otto was confirmed on June 3, 1934, at the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church at Rembrandt. He was educated at Lincoln Township School. During World War II, Otto served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater.
After his discharge, Otto returned to the Rembrandt area and farmed. On January 2, 1947, Otto married Bonnie Jackson at Jackson, Minnesota. The couple made their home at Rembrandt. Bonnie died on July 22, 1970, and Otto continued to live at Rembrandt until 1976, when he moved to Laurens. Otto worked at Mefferd Industries and Twin-Draulics in Laurens until he retired in the mid 1980's. He entered the Good Samaritan Home in December of 1991. Otto was a member of the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling to visit his children and other relatives.
Survivors include three daughters: Karen Dennison of Englewood, Florida, Sue (Ken) Stone of Rembrandt and Linda (Lonnie) Huffman of Longmont, Colorado. Three grandsons; four granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Millie) Ehmen of Sioux Rapids.
Otto was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; twin sons who died in infancy, Kevin and Kent; one granddaughter; one grandson; son-in-laws, Pete Gindler and Mitch Dennison; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services for Otto Herman Ehmen were held February 3, 2003, with Reverend Tony Pulatie officiating. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery with Military Rites with the VFW and American Legion in Laurens.
