Mary Jane Snedeker
August 13, 1933 - October 22, 2010Mary Jane Snedeker, age 77, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, October 22, 2010, at her home in Storm Lake.
Mary Jane Russell, the daughter of Merritt and Elsie (Davis) Russell, was born at Waterville, Vermont, on August 13, 1933. She lived her youth and received her education at various locations throughout Vermont.
On March 2, 1949, Mary Jane was united in marriage to Mark H. Snedeker in Colorado, and during their years together, they welcomed twelve children into their home: Mark, Jane, Sandra, Susie, Joel, Sharon, William, Mike, Maureen, Tom, Tammy, and Noel. Mark served his country in the United States Army, and his career in the military took the family to many places including Colorado, Washington, Germany, and Oklahoma. In 1971, Mary Jane and Mark moved to Storm Lake where she has resided ever since.
Mary Jane loved her employment as a nurse’s aide at the Buena Vista Manor Care Center and always enjoyed going to work and caring for the residents. She touched many lives throughout her 27 years of caring there.
Mary Jane was very talented and will be remembered for her beautiful counted cross stitch work, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and baking. She especially loved her two cats Smarty and Sweety.
Mary Jane’s life is celebrated by her family which includes her children: Mark J. and Carol Snedeker of Storm Lake, Iowa, and their son, Jeremy; Jane and Bob Owen of Memphis, Tennesee; Susie and Danny Curry of Carroll, Iowa; Joel and Angie Snedeker of Newport, North Carolina; Sharon L. Snedeker of Denton, Texas; Mike and Judy Snedeker of Storm Lake, Iowa; Maureen and Doug Lauritsen of Conyers, Georgia; Tom and Nancy Snedeker of Garvin, Minnesota; Tammy and Jay Sassman of Rembrandt, Iowa, and their son Matthew; Noel and Debra Snedeker of Niceville, Florida; her two sisters, Pauline Menard of Newport, North Carolina, and Mattie Parrott of Milton, Vermont, as well as by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends though not mentioned by name, but equally loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mark H. Snedeker; her daughter, Sandra Schmidt; her son, William (Bill) Snedeker; and two brothers, James E. and William G. Russell.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, October 25, 2010 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
