Edna I. Schuler, age 89, of Newell, Iowa, died May 25, 2010, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Edna Irene O’Rourke was born November 3, 1920, in Jackson, Minnesota, the daughter of Cyril and Elizabeth (Gannon) O’Rourke. Growing up, she attended rural school and graduated from Sac City High School. Edna continued her education at Buena Vista College where she received her Teacher Certificate.
On January 25, 1947, Edna was united in marriage to Willard C. Schuler in Sac City, Iowa. Together they were blessed with five children: Tom, Colleen, Donald, Todd and Nolan.
Edna was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake where she was part of the Catholic Daughters. She was the District 9 president of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as a judge during the County election. Edna was also a member of the Newell Providence Band Parents’ Association where she served as president.
Edna loved baking, canning, and sewing. She enjoyed crafts and being able to golf. Edna treasured spending time with her family and will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Willard C. Schuler of Newell, Iowa; her children: Tom (Debbie) Schuler of St. Charles, Missouri; Colleen (Neal) Degner of Wentzville, Missouri; Donald (Donna) Schuler of St. Charles, Missouri; Todd (Angela) Schuler of Avon, Ohio; Nolan (Kinda) Schuler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren: Chad (Sherrie) Degner of Keller, Texas; Tonia Degner of Frisco, Texas; Deanna Degner of Columbia, Missouri; Patrick Degner of Wentzville, Missouri; Amber Degner of Des Moines, Iowa; Thomas Degner of Wentzville, Missouri; Jennifer Schuler of Ofallon, Missouri; Angela (Joe) Paulsen of St. Charles, Missouri; Brian Schuler, USAF of Mendenhal, England; Crystal Schuler of Clearwater, Florida; Hillary Schuler of Avon, Ohio; Brandi Schuler , Ben Schuler, Kielee Lawonn, Andrew MacKenzie all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Heather Reilly and Tarah Kelly of Fayetteville, North Carolina; great grandchildren: Bryan, Corbin, Meagan, Kaitlyin Degner all of Keller, Texas; Blake Degner of Wentzville, Missouri; Jacob, Cameron, Brady, Nathaniel Paulsen all of St. Charles, Missouri; Hailey, Alexis and Jeremy Kelly of Fayetteville, North Carolina; extended family and friends.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Elizabeth O’Rourke; brothers: Paul, Emmett, Cyril E., and Cletus O’Rourke; sisters: Alice Potter and Mary Ellwanger.
Visitation: 3-8:00 p.m. May 28, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa, with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. May 29, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
