Marlin K. Sievers, age 77, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at his home in Storm Lake.

Marlin Keith Sievers was born March 18, 1930, in Montgomery, Iowa, the son of Carl and Vera (Klesath) Sievers. He received his education at Arnolds Park, Iowa, graduating from Okoboji High School in 1948.

Marlin served his country during the Korean War, joining the United States Army on September 17, 1950. He was honorably discharged July 28, 1951, and received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.

On December 1, 1953, Marlin was united in marriage to Marylin Francis Fink in Spirit Lake. The couple was blessed with four children: Sandra, Susan, Sharon and Steven.

Marlin worked for the telephone company in Storm Lake for 40 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake and served on Storm Lake’s volunteer fire department for fifteen years. He was also a member of AMVETS Post #66 in Storm Lake and enjoyed spending time there with his friends. Marlin liked being outdoors—fishing, boating and pheasant hunting. He was a Harley enthusiast, enjoyed wood working and liked to feed the birds and squirrels at his home. His happiest times, however, were those spent with his family and friends. His quiet, caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sandy Meighan of Sac City, Iowa; Susan (Mike) Snater of Winona, Minnesota; Sharon (Mike) Baker of Anchorage, Alaska; and Steve (Becky) Sievers of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; grandchildren: Chad (Michelle) Meighan of Exira, Iowa; Sara (Kyle) Corey of Dow City, Iowa; Eric Meighan of Spencer, Iowa; Shona Snater and Caleb Snater of Winona, Minnesota; Lucas Baker of Anchorage, Alaska; and Peyton Sievers and Douglas Sievers of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; great-grandchildren: Kailyn Corey and Cameron Corey of Dow City, Iowa; brothers: Verne (Helen) Sievers of Vancouver, Washington, and Donald Sievers of Okoboji, Iowa; sister Judith (Gerald) Bryer of Grand Forks, North Dakota; extended family and many friends.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia; and brother-in-law, Don Egertson; and his sister-in-law, Ruthy Sievers.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake with Pastor Jamie Cutler officiating.
