Edith F. Ebersole - Mar. 25, 1918 - Feb. 19, 2008

Edith F. Ebersole, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Edith was born March 25, 1918, in Marathon, Iowa, the daughter of William Frederick and Lillie Della (Ricke) Smith. She was baptized on October 19, 1930, in the United Methodist Church in Marathon. Edith spent her youth in the Marathon area and received her education in the Marathon schools. She graduated from Marathon High School in 1936. Then, she continued on to attend cosmetology school in Omaha for two years.

On September 9, 1939, Edith was united in marriage to LaVern Edwin Ebersole in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Mary, and a son, Greg.

Edith was a loving wife and devoted mother who found happiness in keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed sewing and did alterations for others. Music played a large part in her life. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and enjoyed sharing her talents with others. To that end, she gave piano lessons and served as her church organist. Edith loved her Lord and was happy to serve Him in many ways. Edith was a member of Faith Bible Christian Outreach Center in Storm Lake. She was a former Sunday School teacher and also had served as Sunday School superintendent in the United Methodist Church in Marathon. She was a member of Eastern Star for many years.

Her family, however, was always most important in Edith’s life. She treasured the times she spent with them and carried them in her heart always. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary (Dr. Charles) Egeland of Ames, Iowa; her son, Greg (Karen) Ebersole of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Kristen (Todd) Applegate of Phoenix, Arizona; Peter (Jennifer) Egeland of Kansas City, Missouri; and Brandon Ebersole of Hudson, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Olivia Boe, Mia Applegate and Jocelin and Joelle Egeland; special friend, Nadine Ullerich; extended family and many friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and five sisters.

Memorial services for Mrs. Ebersole will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Bible Christian Outreach Center in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangement.

Friends may call on Friday, February 22, 2008, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.
