Charles L. Miller - Sept. 26, 1926 - Apr. 18, 2008

Charles L. Miller, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Charles was born September 26, 1926, in Sac City, Iowa, the son of William S. and Aletha (Owen) Miller. He was baptized in the Methodist Church as an infant and confirmed his faith as a youth. He attended Storm Lake Community School and graduated from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1943. He then continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for the next three and a half years.

On July 15, 1946, Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy Ford in New Orleans, Louisiana. The couple was blessed with five children: Virgil, Kay, Tom, Rick and Doug.

Charles joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. A patriot his entire life, Charles was a member of the Alta Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Storm Lake. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Charles was currently a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

Charles was an outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He loved all kinds of sports, enjoyed hunting ducks and pheasants, and liked to go fishing. He always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.

His family was always first in his life, however, and he treasured the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, of Storm Lake; children: Virgil (Phyllis) Miller of Storm Lake; Kay (Gary) Oehler of Storm Lake; Tom (Nancy) Miller of Storm Lake; Rick (Debby) Miller of Vincenne, Indiana; and Doug (Tracy) Miller of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Brian (Carrie) Miller, Tammy (Kevin) Turner, Sheri (Brandon) Ripke, Michael Miller, Pam O’Brien, Terry Zusla Oehler, Jenni (Brent) Jones, J.J. O’Brien, Tami Oehler (Eric), Melissa Miller, T.J. Miller, Chucky Tony Miller, Christopher (Connie) Miller, Gregory Miller, Samantha Miller, Amanda Miller and Alexis Miller; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Helen Ford, Joyce (Ted) Patterson and Audrey Miller; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Miller; two sisters, Ardis and Evelyn; and one nephew, Mike Miller.

Funeral service for Mr. Miller will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military rites by the Alta VFW Post 6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
