Edwin E. Harris, 81, of Newell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.
Edwin E., the son of Harry and Lillian (Schulz) Harris, was born May 21, 1919, in Portland, Ore. He was baptized in the Newell United Methodist Church where he was a lifelong member. He attended the Newell School.
From September of 1942 until October 1945, Mr. Harris served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a mechanic on large bombers. He served In Europe, he served in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and the Ardennes, earning six Bronze stars. Following his discharge from the service, he came back to Newell and farmed.
On Feb. 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to Irma Carlson. The couple lived in Newell their entire married life. Mr. Harris worked for the City of Newell until his retirement in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter and one step-son James Lee Master.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife Irma; one daughter Charlene and her husband Jim Breazeale of Pleasantville; one step-daughter Donna Jean Davis of Des Moines; six grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers-in-law: Oliver and Betty Carlson of Algona, Glen and Nola Carlson of Storm Lake, Oscar and Marilyn Carlson of Onalaska, Wis., Don and Deb Carlson of Fort Dodge, and Larry and Sheryl Carlson of Alta; one sister-in-law Donna Stelling of Pocahontas; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Harris were held Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at United Methodist Church in Newell. Pastor Geneva Parsons officiated at the service.
Pallbearers were Steve Breazeale, Jeff Davis, Shawn Breazeale, Tony Davis, Shane Breazeale and Robbie Davis.
Burial was at Newell Cemetery. The Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Newell was in charge of the arrangements.
