Lois Mack - Sept. 22, 1917 - June 4, 2008

Lois Mack, age 90, of Wall Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake.

Lois Ione Lille was born in Lake View, Iowa, on September 22, 1917, to Frances (McCarter) and Clarence “Dutch” Lille. The second of five daughters, Lois graduated from Lake View High School in 1935 and was selected as Miss Lake View. She received her degree from the Iowa School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines and worked as a hairdresser in downtown Sac City.

On September 1, 1940, she married Edgar Mack, a Storm Lake attorney, and they had two children, Karen Elizabeth and Warren Edgar. Lois was a devoted wife and mother. She loved hosting family gatherings of both the Macks and Lilles, playing bridge, fishing, and shopping with Karen. She had a flair for cooking—bread, Christmas cookies, turkey and apple-raisin dressing, and suet pudding were her specialities. She volunteered as a leader with the Youth Club at Lakeside Presbyterian, Karen’s Brownie Scout troop, Methodist Manor and Meals on Wheels. She belonged to P.E.O., the 37 Club, Penguin Club and was a charter member of Lake Creek Country Club. She delighted in her three grandchildren. An elegant lady, Lois was always gracious.

Lois is survived by her sisters Marian Swihart of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Darlene (Herb) of Lake View, Iowa; daughter Karen (John) of Sunnyvale, California; son Warren (Linda) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; granddaughters Kendra of Minneapolis and Leslie of La Pointe, Wisconsin; and her grandson, Christopher Kulander, of Sunnyvale, California; and her beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edgar, who died in 1992; sisters Elaine Lille and Marjorie Dettmann; and brothers-in-law Willis Dettmann and Albert Swihart.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Twilight Acres, who took such good care of her the last five years, and the hospice nurses from Loring Hospital, who made her comfortable in her last days.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mack will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Mack Family Scholarship Fund at Buena Vista University, 610 W. Fourth St., Storm Lake, IA 50588.

No visitation will be held.
