Milo Christiansen, 83, of Newell, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Buena Vista County Hospital.
Milo Neil Christiansen was born Feb. 26, 1917, to Louis and Catilia (Kjarsgaard) Christiansen in Newell. He graduated from Newell High School and attended A.I.B. in Des Moines before entering the U.S. Army in 1941. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Master Sargent.
On Aug. 8, 1952, he was united in marriage to Helen Louise VanRyswyk in Des Moines. The couple resided in Des Moines before moving to the family farm in 1945. It was there he farmed until his retirement in 1980.
He was a charter member of the Bethel Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Christiansen was preceded in death by his parents; his infant twin sister Mildred and one brother Richard.
He is survived by his wife Helen; two daughters: Sharon and Arlen Yost of Parkersburg and Carol Hillebrand and her husband Mark of Clear Lake; one son: Dale and his wife Diane of Newell; one sister: Marjorie Easton and her husband Howard of Sioux City; one brother: Rev. Leon and his wife Doris of Oklahoma City, Okla. and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services for Milo Christiansen were held Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. Pastor James Bartsch officiated at the 2:30 p.m. service.
Casketbearers were Arlen Yost, Brad Hillebrand, Mark Hillebrand, John Van Ryswyk, Carl Christiansen, Carl Van Ryswyk and Jonathan Yost. Burial was at the Newell Cemetery with presentation of the flag by the Newell American Legion Post No. 193.
