Darold W. Veerhusen - May 23, 1929 - July 29, 2007

Darold W. Veerhusen, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Darold Walter Veerhusen was born in Fonda, Iowa, on May 23, 1929, to George and Pearl (Sweat) Veerhusen. He received his education in the Fonda school district. Following graduation from Fonda High School, Darold continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.

On February 20, 1951, Darold married Rosalie DeVolder. They were blessed with two children: Dan and Laurie.

Darold served in the Army National Guard for over 25 years. He was very proud of “his boys” in the Guard. Following retirement from his full time services in the Guard, Darold owned and operated the Lake Hardware and Sporting Goods store in Storm Lake for many years. In addition, he also drove a school bus and worked at Merrill Manufacturing of Storm Lake. Darold was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was instrumental with the Operation Christmas Child Project of Samaritan’s Purse.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Veerhusen, of Storm Lake; two children: Dan Veerhusen and his wife Sara of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Laurie Wilcox and her husband Carl of Haxtun, Colorado; two grandchildren: Andrea Wilcox and Matthew Wilcox of Haxtun, Colorado; one sister, Mary Lou Sanders of Bettendorf, Iowa; other extended family and friends.

Darold was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Joe Sanders, Mel Miller and John DeVolder.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake with Reverends Tom Hinshaw and Kory Kleinsasser officiating. Interment will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery with military rites performed by Alta VFW Post #6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Monday, July 30, 2007, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00.
