Warren Russell “Pill” Corderman, age 87, of Newell, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at his home in Newell.
Russell was born on January 25, 1920, in Cedar Township, Sac County, Iowa, the son of Alice (Larimer) and Warren H. Corderman. He grew up in Douglas Township where he graduated from country school. He farmed with his father and worked for Lockheed Vegas in California and North American Aircraft in Kansas City before enlisting in the service on September 2, 1942. He served his country in the United States Air Corp, earning the rank of Corporal when he was honorably discharged in May of 1943 to return home and farm following his father’s heart attack.
On August 29, 1946, Russell was united in marriage to Maxine Schuler at Fort Collins, Colorado. To this union two children were born, Candace and Warren “Rusty”.
Farming was Russell’s life. He loved working the fields and living on the land. He never officially retired, but continued to help Rusty in any way he could. While farming was his life, his family was his love. He treasured every moment he was able to share with his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards, family activities and especially family reunions. He will be dearly missed.
Russell was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell on March 27, 1949, where he remained an active member, serving as an Elder and Trustee. He was a member of the Newell American Legion for 63 years, serving in the Color Guard, Commander, and on the Legion Farm Board. He helped develop the Avenue of flags. He served as Douglas Township Trustee for 40 years.
