Frank was stationed in the Marine Corp at Cherry Point from 1955-1959. In 1959, Frank was honorably discharged, and the family returned to Iowa that February. Frank worked for Wiskus and Feckel Construction, Paul Park Company Constructors and Taylor Contracting, all in Storm Lake, until his retirement in 1999. Frank was an accomplished carpenter and has left many buildings and houses that he built over the years as a testament to his carpentry skills.
Frank enjoyed gardening and going to the area farmers' markets where he became very well known for his asparagus. He owned Grandpa’s Garden where he tended a large garden of various plants and his nine acres of asparagus. His love of farming and the land was shown in his crops, livestock and quarter horses.
Much of Frank’s time was spent with his grandchildren. He cherished these moments with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren. One of Frank’s most treasured memories was giving his great-grandson, Nathan, tours of the asparagus patch on the go-cart.
Frank was a member of the Newell United Methodist Church where he served on various boards and committees over the years. He served as an officer for the Buena Vista County Pork Producers and was an integral part of the organization and the beginning of the Buena Vista Saddle and Surrey Club.
