Esther A. Paap - Mar. 1, 1907 - Oct. 27, 2007

Esther A. Paap, age 100, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Esther Alvina Kraemer, the daughter of Rudolph and Bertha (Roby) Kraemer, was born in Scott Township, north of Alta, Iowa, on March 1, 1907. She was baptized into the Christian faith on May 11, 1913. Esther received her education in the Fairview Consolidated School.

She was united in marriage to Fred C. Paap on January 26, 1927, and this union was blessed with one daughter, Phyllis Jean. Esther has made Storm Lake her home since February, 1941. Throughout her lifetime, Esther was kept busy cleaning people’s homes in the community. Fred died on December 27, 1989. On August 13, 1999, Esther moved to the Methodist Manor apartments where she made her home.

Esther was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where she served her Lord through the Ladies Aid and also teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She loved music and playing the organ and had given organ lessons for many years. Esther was always ready to lend a helping hand, and she enjoyed sharing her cooking talents with her many friends. Hobbies of Esther’s included sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. She cherished the times when her family could come and visit her.

Those who will always cherish her memory include her daughter, Phyllis Johnson of Story City, Iowa; two grandsons: Michael Williams of Houston, Texas and Steven Williams of Mission Viejo, California; her step-granddaughter, Vicky Hatcher of Platteville, Colorado; two great grandchildren: Jason Williams and Maria Williams; a step great grandson, John Hatcher; and several great-great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Bentzen of Monticello, Minnesota; other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son-in-law, John Johnson; two brothers: Henry and Walter Kraemer; five sisters: Minnie Kraemer, Mae Huseman, Bessie Norman, Florence Kolpin and Pearl Peterson; and two brothers-in-law: Claus Bentzen and Leonard Kolpin.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Interment will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the start of the service. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.
