Services held for Charles NATTRESS

Charles Wesley NATTRESS died Saturday, July 15, 1978 at the age 84 in the Pettis Veterans Hospital, Loma Linda, Calif., after a short illness. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.

Mr. NATTRESS was born in Mason City, Iowa, February 26, 1894, grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa. He enlisted in the Navy on December 11, 1917, World War I, and was discharged in 1919. He settled in Onida, S.D., married Lelia M. DUNN on August 18, 1921. He operated a Dry Cleaning business in the Stringer General Store. In 1928 he purchased the store and continued its operation until it burned to the ground in December 1936. At that time they moved to Glendale, Calif., bought the Collette Apartments, and operated these until his retirement in 1956.

Two children were born to this union, Charles Robert and Janet who survive along with seven grandchildren, Cheril, Linda, Laurel NATTRESS, Steven, Tad, Patricia and Scott DOBBIE, and one sister, Nina COLBATH of Chula Vista, Calif.

Besides running an apartment house he served as a director of the Los Angeles Apartment Association, served six years on the Glendale City Council, was an active member of the Elks, Lions Club, American Legion, and Past Master of the Masons. When he retired in Palm Springs, Calif. he became very active in shuffelboard and was known as Mr. Shuffelboard among several shuffelboard clubs in southern California.

The family home at 330 Logentia, Ramon Park, Palm Springs, Calif. will continue to be home for Mrs. NATTRESS.

Additional information for this family; Charles Wesley NATTRESS' father was Joseph NATTRESS 1851-1928 in Storm Lake, who came to Buena Vista Co in 1895 and operated a Hardware business in Storm Lake for many years. His mother was Anna Rebbeca SMITH NATTRESS 1863-1894. His step mother was Cora BETHARDS. He had three siblings; Robert E. 1887-1969, Claribel NATTRESS COX 1889-1970 and Nina NATTRESS COLBATH 1892-1989.
