On May 12, 1951, Mike and Jessie Means were united in marriage at the Presbyterian Church in Lytton. They were blessed with four sons: Micheal, Jeffrey, Allan and Kelly, and one daughter, Joleen.

Mike and Jessie moved their family to the Storm Lake and Truesdale area in 1955 where Mike farmed and worked at Hy-Grade in Storm Lake. He also worked in construction and at Cargill Elevator where he was a supervisor at the time of his retirement in 1991.

Mike enjoyed the outdoors and liked to go camping. He was an avid reader. Mike took pleasure from celebrating all holidays, but he especially enjoyed Christmas. He knew the meaning of community, volunteering his time to the Truesdale Fire Department and serving as Mayor of Truesdale for 16 years. Mike was a member of the Truesdale Methodist Church until it closed. He then transferred his membership to the Storm Lake United Methodist Church.

Above all, Mike was a family man. He was a devoted husband and father who treasured the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a hard worker who always provided for his family.
