Doris Tuttle - Dec. 28, 1928 - June 5, 2006

Doris Tuttle of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, June 5, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Doris Elizabeth Lohse was born December 28, 1928, in Westbrook, Minnesota, to Henry and Lena (Koerlin) Lohse. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Westbrook in 1929 and confirmed in the same Lutheran church as a youth. In her later years, she joined the First United Church of Sioux Rapids where she was a faithful member.

Doris received her early education at country school before graduating from Westbrook High School in 1946.

On September 25, 1949, Doris was united in marriage to Leonard Edward Tuttle in Westbrook. They were blessed with six children: Karon, Shirley, Maynard, Anita, Wayne and Brenda.

Doris was a loving wife and devoted mother. She took pride and pleasure in keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed decorating and sewing, and she was a very good cook. It was her talents in these areas that led her to making wedding cakes and sewing wedding dresses. For relaxation, Doris liked to spend time gardening or fishing. More than anything else on earth, however, Doris loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. Her gentle, caring presence will be missed daily by all those who loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Karon (Bill) Schoonover of Paullina, Iowa; Shirley Morris of Sioux Rapids; Maynard (Julie) Tuttle of Everly, Iowa; Anita Edwards of Spencer, Iowa; Wayne (Tammie) Tuttle of Hardy, Iowa; and Brenda (Alan) Schealler of Sioux Rapids; grandchildren Brandon, Naomi and Ryan Kliegl; Matthew Morris; Heather Schmidt; Katie Maaland; Amber Tuttle; Brittany Tuttle, Holly Tuttle, Amy, Teresa, Megan, and Madison, Tuttle; Brett and Krista Schealler; great-grandchildren: Marissa, Max, Noah, Kasha and Chase; sisters-in law: Irene Wenning, Elva Sater and Clara Lohse; extended family and many friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; sister, Harriet Lohse; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Emma and Carl Veenhuis and Berneice and Clifford Smith; brother Ernest Lohse; brother and sister-in-law Ervin and Bertha Lohse.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 8, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Church in Sioux Rapids with Reverend Wm. Schoonover officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7, 2006, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
