Laura Burch - Dec. 28, 1907 - Aug. 19, 2006

Laura Burch, age 98 of Laurens, Iowa, died Saturday, August 19, 2006, at the Hovenden Good Samaritan Center in Laurens.

Laura Olive Doty was born December 28, 1907, to Alford and Flora Belle (Gray) Doty in Belvidere, Nebraska. She was baptized as an infant in the First Christian Church in Belvidere and later confirmed in the same church. Laura attended Country School #44, rural Belvidere, through the eighth grade.

On June 4, 1925, Laura married Ross Theodore Burch in Hebron, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Maudie Mae and Flora Allene. They farmed in the Belvidere area until March 1, 1938, when they moved to a farm east of Rembrandt, Iowa. They lived there until March 1, 1945, when they purchased a home at 420 Russell Street in Storm Lake. On March 1, 1946, they purchased the Carl Sanderman farm west of Storm Lake. They lived there until they purchased the Pressel place south of Rembrandt, Iowa on Highway 71. They lived there until March 1, 1951, when they sold the place to Odell and Lucille Phillips and the Burches purchased a farm northwest of Laurens from the Clark Family. This was Laura’s home until she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Laurens on November 1, 1994.

Laura joined the Methodist Church in Rembrandt in 1938 and transferred to the Storm Lake Methodist Church and then back to the Rembrandt Methodist Church. Later she transferred her membership to the Laurens Methodist Church. Laura was a member of the United Methodist Women and belonged to various circles over the years. She belonged to the Stitch and Chatter Club at Laurens, a birthday club, and various card clubs. She had many hobbies during her lifetime: sewing, quilting, gardening and her flowers. She delighted in keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family and enjoyed entertaining friends and family alike. She loved to sit down and visit with her guests. Laura’s kind and caring presence will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Maudie Mae (Carl) Sennert of Linn Grove, Iowa; daughter Allene (Floyd) Erichsen of Urbandale, Iowa; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Laura is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Washington, California, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and Florida.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Ross, on November 19, 1992; her brother Earle (Edna) Doty; sisters Elsie (Claude) Bredwell, Helen (Albert) Kitzel, and Lena (Ray) Bailey.
