Floyd I. Mangold - Feb. 15, 1914 - Aug. 29, 2006

Floyd I. Mangold, age 92, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

On February 15, 1914, Floyd Ilo Mangold was born near Linn Grove, Iowa, to George and Emily (Swanson) Mangold. He was united in marriage to Emogene Rosene Wienands on August 27, 1945, at Bronson, Iowa, and this union was blessed with four sons: George, Robert, Brent and William.

Floyd was a 1932 graduate of the Highview High School and continued his education at Buena Vista College where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Chemistry. Following college, Floyd taught high school for two years at Dow City where he also served as a basketball coach. He then moved to Wichita, Kansas, and was employed with Cesena Aviation.

Floyd served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from April 29, 1942, until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1945. Floyd returned to Iowa to his new bride where they began farming his mother’s family farm near Linn Grove, and they resided on that farm for 56 years.

They moved to Wel-Life in Alta in April, 2001. Emogene died on December 15, 2001. Floyd later moved to the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa, in July 2002.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Linn Grove. Floyd was dedicated to his farming vocation and also enjoyed gardening and reading. Family was a very important part of Floyd’s life and he treasured the time he could spend with them.

Those who will always cherish his memory include his children: George of Hill City, South Dakota, Brent and his wife, Rhonda, of Storm Lake, Iowa, William (Bill) of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Kyra, Kevin, Justin, Cody, Alicia and Andrea; and great grandson, Emmitt.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emogene; infant son, Robert; and his brother, Lowell.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa, with Pastor David Moore officiating. Burial will be in Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday, September 1, 2006, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
