Mary M. Woodle, age 91, of Papillion, Nebraska, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, February 26, 2010, at Hillcrest Rehab Center in Papillion.

Mary M. Schillewaert was born on May 5, 1918, in Monticello, Minnesota, to Edward and Marie (DeMay) Schillewaert. Her parents migrated from Belgium and Mary was very proud of her heritage. She attended school in Monticello, graduating from Monticello High School in 1935. Following graduation, Mary enrolled into St. Cloud Teachers College, graduating in 1938.

On July 23, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Lewis Woodle in Monticello, Minnesota. This couple was blessed with three children: Mike, Tim and Ed.

Mary was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith in Monticello. She was a devoted Catholic. Mary was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Papillion, Nebraska, and an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Storm Lake where she was a part of Catholic Daughters, St. Mary’s Guild and involved in many other church activities. Proudly, Mary served as a charter member of the Legion of Mary, which began in 1965. Her Catholic faith was very important to her.

Over the years, Mary touched many lives as a teacher. She taught at the Cadet School in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Hinckley, Minnesota, St. Cloud at Roosevelt (2nd Grade), Supher Springs and Hayes Township (kindergarten). Following her retirement, Mary often substituted at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Storm Lake.

She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and reading. Mary and Woody volunteered for Meals on Wheels. They loved and cherished their family and the time they spent together. Mary attended many of her grandchildren’s events, and she was an avid St. Mary’s sports follower. Family meant the world to Mary. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren as she took a special interest in their lives.

Those who will cherish Mary’s memory are her three children: Michael (Patricia) Woodle of Storm Lake, Iowa; Tim (Mary) Woodle of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Ed (Evory) Woodle of Papillion, Nebraska; her grandchildren: Dr. Bradley (Christina)Woodle of Olathe, Kansas; Adam Woodle of Ames, Iowa; Drew Woodle of Lenexa, Kansas; Dan Woodle of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Dr. Amanda (John) Walz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Christian Woodle of Papillion, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Abbey and Ella Walz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; extended family and friends

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marie; her husband, Lewis; one sister, Martha DeZutter; and two brothers: Oscar and Basil Schillewaert.

Visitation: 4-8:00 p.m. March 05, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. March 06, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa
