Norman H. Boisen - July 14, 1923 - Mar. 3, 2005

Norman H. Boisen, age 81, of Schaller, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Norman Herman Boisen was born July 14, 1923, in Cook Township, Sac County, Iowa, to Herman D. Boisen and Eva (Gertsmeier) Boisen. His mother passed away when he was 16 years old. His father married Maude Voyles on November 28, 1942.

Norm attended country school south of Hanover for three years. He then entered Hayes Consolidated School, Storm Lake, graduating in 1941. He then worked at Douglas Aircraft in California. He returned home and worked for George Brown until induction into the armed services in March 1943. He was injured in France on September 14, 1944. The next 8 months were spent in military hospitals in France, England and the United States. He received his discharge May, 1945, from Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

He worked for Bill Brown at Brown Oil then Don Kestel and he purchased the Eastside Oil. When it was sold, Norm went to work for DeKalb in Storm Lake.

Norman was united in marriage to Norma L. Sanderman on September 14, 1948, at the Immanuel Reformed Church in rural Schaller. To this union, two children were born, Lee and Joanne.

In 1953, he was appointed Rural Letter Carrier, Route 2 at Schaller, retiring May, 1983. After retiring, he was crop hail adjuster for 14 years.

He was a life time member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V., also a member of the American Legion.

He served on the School Board, City Council, Fire Department, Scout Master and Little League Coach. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife Norma; son Lee and wife Kay of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Joanne and husband Maurice Noll of Kremmling, Colorado; six grandchildren: Bryan, Matt, Kelli and Sara Boisen, Justin and Stacey Noll; one great granddaughter Emmerson Boisen; three step-sisters: Virginia Freeman, Betty Woodke and Clara Grotjohn; and one step brother Lou Voyles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Laura Mae.

Funeral Services will be Monday, March 7, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in rural Schaller with Reverend Henry Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Sunday, March 6, 2005, from 1-4:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller where family present from 2-4:00 p.m.
