Ebal I. Brechler - Nov. 1, 1926 - Feb. 21, 2010
Ebal I. Brechler, age 83, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at the Solon Nursing Care Center at Solon, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ebal Ione Burger, the daughter of Cleve and Florence (Speas) Burger, was born on November 1, 1926, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Ayrshire, Iowa, with her seven siblings and attended the Emmetsburg High School.
Ebal met Clair Brechler at a dance in Emmetsburg and the couple was married on June 19, 1944, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and were blessed with six children: Janice, Leonard, Dennis, Rick, Ron, and Jeanne. In 1957, the family moved to Albert City, Iowa. Ebal was employed at a variety of jobs and retired as a physical therapy assistant at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City at the age of 80. She enjoyed attending the sporting events of her grandchildren, watching movies, doing crafts with her friends, and playing games with those who came to visit her. Ebal’s homemade buns, pies, baked goods, and wonderful meals will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
Those who will always cherish Ebal’s memory include her children: Janice of Albert City, Iowa; Leonard and Elaine Brechler of McAllen, Texas; Dennis and Kathy Brechler of Coralville, Iowa; Rick and Nancy Brechler of LeMars, Iowa; Ron and Corrin Brechler of Laurens, Iowa; and Jeanne and Maurice Wallingford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jeff (Jennifer) Brechler, Jody (Christina) Brechler, Michelle (Chad) Highly, Brian (Lindsay) Brechler, Michael, Sara, and Kimberly Brechler, Jason, Kristi, David, and Gary Brechler, and Trudy and Katie Sievers; her great grandchildren: Mackayla, Garrett and Logan Highly, Jordyn, Lauren, and Mackenzie Brechler, Cody and Caitlyn Brechler, Tyler and Audrey Brechler; her step great-grandchildren: Bianca and Leah Picacio; her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Joyce Burger of San Diego, California; numerous other relatives and her many friends.
Ebal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clair, on September 12, 1998; and her six siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 26, 2010, from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. Burial will be in the Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
