Evelyn M. Grau - July 27, 1920 - Apr. 14, 2005

Evelyn M. Grau, age 84, of Newell, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 14, 2005, with her daughter by her side. Evelyn Marie Waskom was born July 27, 1920, on the family farm in Sac County, Iowa, the daughter of Jay and Mabel (Hines) Waskom.

Evelyn attended country school and graduated from Nemaha High School. On January 24, 1948, Evelyn was united in marriage to Harald H. Grau in Wickenburg, Arizona. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Joann.

Evelyn was a partner and worked alongside her husband as the bookkeeper in their business, Grau Motors. She enjoyed spending time with her family and coffee group, gardening, watching sports, and car racing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Newell.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Joann Grau and John Beckner of Grand Junction, CO; three sisters: Mildred Rogers of Newell, IA, Lucile Schnirring of Sac City, IA, and Crystal and husband Don Larimer of St. Louis, MO; four sisters-in-law: Ruth Bennett of Sun City, AZ, Dorothy and husband Richard Stilling of Northridge, CA, Ardyth Barber of Okoboji, IA, and Kay Grau of Storm Lake, IA; and many nieces; nephews; extended family members; and friends.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; husband Harald, on March 6, 2004; brothers-in-law: Dean Rogers, Glen Schnirring, H. G. “Ben” Bennett, Charles Weiland, Jerry Barber, Holger Grau, and Theodore Grau; sister-in-law Leona Grau; and her nieces; Kristi Emmick, Cheryl Grau, and Cathy Larimer.

Memorial services for Evelyn Grau will be held on Monday, April 18th, 10:30 am, at the United Methodist Church in Newell with Rev. David Schumann officiating. Inurnment will be at the Newell Cemetery under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour before the memorial service at the church.
