On August 6, 1946, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army. His place of entry was in Aaford Kearns, Utah, as an Airplane Electrical Mechanic 658. After farming several years, Charles finished his life of occupation of a truck driver and upon retirement, he went back to his first and long time love of gardening and raising chickens and rabbits. His hobbies included small engine repair, woodworking, fishing, reading mystery books, gardening, along with his generosity of giving away his home grown vegetables, and giving away home-made horseradish for a monetary donation to those who wished to pay him.
