Cyril "Cy" Heissel - Jan. 29, 1930 - Sept. 28, 2005
Cyril "Cy" Heissel, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.
Cy was born on January 29, 1930, to William and Elizabeth (Mairose) Heissel in LeMars, Iowa. He attended school in Merrill, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1948.
In 1951, Cy was united in marriage to Janice Crowley in LeMars where the couple lived until 1989. They were blessed with a family of four children: Julie, Kirk, Diane and Dan.
After farming for several years, Cy joined the auto business, working in the parts department of Pew’s Buick and Pontiac. He later switched to sales, working for Pew’s, Whelan Motors, Chuck Wood Chevrolet and then retired from selling insurance in 1980.
While in LeMars, Cy was active in Sertoma Club, the LeMars Jaycees, and the Isaac Walton League. He served in the Iowa National Guard for seven years, retiring as First Lieutenant. Cy was also an avid hunter and fisherman. It was the love of the water and fishing that brought Cy and Jan to Storm Lake where they have lived for the past 16 years.
Cy and Jan are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Jan, of Storm Lake and children Julie (Jim) Mueller of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Kirk (Lee) Heissel of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Diane (Keith) Culver of Hinton, Iowa; and Dan (Carol) Heissel of Everly, Iowa. He is further survived by fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Oliva Muir of St. Louis, Missouri, and Mary Lihudis of LeMars; other extended family and a host of friends.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth Heissel.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, October 1, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in LeMars, Iowa.
Friends may call on Friday, September 30, from 3:00-8:00 pm at the Fratkze & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be said at 3:30 pm and a parish vigil service is planned for 7:00 pm.
